A handwritten note found April 22 on an inmate at the Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution listed 29 department employees. A computerized list dating back to 1998 found in an inmate’s property on April 29 listed an additional 49 employees and their social security numbers.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is offering free identity theft protection to 78 employees after discovering at least two prisoners had gotten hold of employee Social Security numbers.
